FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why charge a membership fee?
The membership allows us to provide personalized, comprehensive, and efficient primary care. We are able to provide additional services to you for a fixed, upfront, monthly cost. This will help you budget, not worry about any other extra costs or co-pays/deductibles for routine care.
Why would i pay "extra" fees in addition to my health insurance plan?
Health insurance is a must to help cover for hospital stay, surgical procedures, and specialized services. Instead of paying for copays for each clinic visit, higher insurance negotiated prices for imaging, labs, and pathology, our practices DOES NOT charge copays and have significantly discounted imaging, laboratory, medications, and pathology prices. Our care is comprehensive, 24/7 accessible, and affordable.
what if i am healthy and RARELY go to the doctor? why should i join?
That is wonderful news! Our mission is to keep our members healthy and prevent "unnecessary" care that could have been prevented with good and efficient primary care. We all are in this life journey together and time will age us. Our thought is why not build a relationship with a primary care physician early rather than late.
how does this practice work with my INSURANCE plan?
Is LiveActive Primary Care an insurance plan?
NO WAY! We are simply a humble primary care practice serving our amazing community.
Is LiveActive Primary Care a substitute for health insurance?
NO. Insurance is needed for unexpected and expensive services that you might need. Our practice is not an insurance plan. It is a great supplement to your health insurance plan.
Can LiveActive Primary Care bill my insurance plan for services rendered?
No. We do not contract with any private health insurance plans. We simply contract and serve our members; eliminating any third party influence in the care that we provide. You can use your insurance for hospitalizations, imaging, medications, specialty care, etc. All services through LiveActive Primary Care are not billed to your insurance company.
Do you accept Medicaid, KanCare?
We do not contract with Medicaid or KanCare and cannot bill them for our services. Folks with these insurance plans will be assigned a "network primary care (PCP)" that may be required to access other health plan benefits and services. Recipients of these insurance plan are welcome to join our membership. Please understand we will not be billing your insurer as we do not contract with them.
Do you accept Medicare? Can Medicare recipients join the practice?
We do not contract with any insurance companies whether they are private or public. We have opted out of Medicare and will ask that you complete a waiver recognizing that we will not be billing Medicare for the services rendered at our clinic at the time of setting up your account with us. You are more than welcome to utilize Medicare for labs, imaging, pathology, or any other service that you may seek. Our membership fees are not reimbursable by Medicare nor will we bill them on your behalf.
Can I use my insurance elsewhere if I join LiveActive Primary Care?
Yes. Your insurance plan will operate as "usual" when you visit a specialist, get admitted to the hospital, etc. PPO based plans do not require a gatekeeper doctor for referrals, medications, tests, etc. However, HMO based plans do require an in-network provider. So, HMO based plans may not pair well with LiveActive Primary Care.
Can I submit my visit claim to my health insurance plan for reimbursement?
Currently, most insurance companies do not recognize our membership fees as a reimbursable expense. For non-covered services we can provide a receipt of services that can process with your insurance plan. Most folks have not found this worthwhile.
Can I use my FSA or HSA accounts with LiveActive Primary Care?
We accept HSA cards, not FSA at this time. These accounts can be used to pay for membership fees, laboratory testing, and/or medications from our pharmacy. We strongly recommend that you discuss this with your financial advisor.
Is there an insurance plan that you recommend me getting?
Obviously, we are not financial or health insurance advisors. The high-deductible type plans when combined with our practice membership fees can be cost saving. We do have an insurance expert whom we can refer you to provide more information.
how do the fees work?
Are there any hidden fees?
NO! We try to provide as many services to our members without any additional fees. For the non-covered services, you will know exactly what the cost will be. Remember, these non-covered services are heavily discounted by our partners in imaging, pathology, and lab.
What about lab work?
There are a some labs that will be included in the membership fee. The non-covered labs are heavily discounted for our members, almost 50-90%, which is less than insurance based prices.
When do I pay my fees for medications, non-covered labs, procedures, imaging?
We expect full payment at the time of service including medications and labs. Imaging is provided by imaging centers in the community. For those who either have no insurance or do not want to bill their insurance, imaging is discounted heavily for our members. There is no in-house imaging.
Is there a per visit cost? How much will my first visit be?
We do NOT charge per visit for our members. There is a initial registration fee and the initial month payment at the time of signing up for membership. If the first visit requires any non-covered services, then the cost might be slightly more. Certainly, nonmembers who wish to get care from us will pay per visit.
How much are wellness visits?
These are at ZERO COST to our members. We like to do a wellness visit annually. Technically, we hope to spend every visit reviewing all issues rather than just one item like traditional practices. This is why your visits may be longer than 15 minutes...which is good for you because you are getting more value for your monthly fee!
What if I need a specialist, be admitted, go to the ER, or need outside care?
What if I need a specialist, be admitted, go to the ER, or need outside care?
We can refer and order testing as any other traditional primary care practice. Dr. Ahmed is well connected in the Kansas City area. His experience as a hospital physician will help in your evaluation and treatment. We can do simple suturing in the office, place splints, and other minor office procedures. Large fractures and more emergent cases will be sent to the ER.This is why we recommend you have insurance to help cover inpatient, ER, surgery, and other non-covered services.
Our practice is NOT AN INSURANCE PLAN. It is simply a primary care practice that provides unique services to its members.
Where can Dr. Ahmed do home visits?
Johnson County in Kansas and Kansas City area on the Kansas side. We prefer to stay on the Kansas side, but we will consider Missouri clients on a case by case basis. Our inability to travel to Missouri for home visits does not eliminate the opportunity for Missouri clients to join our practice and seek care at our clinic in Overland Park, KS.

Our wholesale medications include antibiotics, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, neuropathy, insomnia, thyroid conditions, gastrointestinal conditions, asthma, COPD, and much more.
